LED Power Supplies - Constant Voltage
Just as the name suggests, this section contains constant voltage power supplies to operate LED fittings.
LEDs require a device that can convert mains AC power to DC voltage, and regulate the current in the circuit. The driver converts 230V AC power to low-voltage DC power required by the LEDs, the driver also protects the LEDs from line-voltage fluctuations. LED chips, LED strips, LED strings, LED modules, LED bars and LED arrays can all be constructed in different ways. Some have a serial connection with a current-limiting resistor above them. Some use the on-board constant current regulator to replace the current-limiting resistor. While some add current balancing and smart protections onto the printed circuit board. The net results can be confusing to the customer.
Our advice is to stick to the driver suggested by the manufacturer of the LED product. If however you have a specific requirement please contact us for advice because some drivers are interchangeable i.e. a constant current driver with a 12v supply may be used to power some LED product that suggests a constant voltage driver should be used.

Q: Why is a constant voltage driver needed for some LED applications?
A: Some LED lights and LED strip lights are designed to operate at a specific voltage level, typically 12V or 24V. A constant voltage ensures that these LEDs receive a steady voltage, which is crucial for maintaining consistent brightness and preventing damage to the LEDs over time.
Q: How do I choose the right constant voltage LED driver for my LED lights?
A: To select the appropriate constant voltage LED driver, you need to know the voltage requirement of your LED lights (usually 12V or 24V) and the total wattage of the LED lights you plan to connect. The output voltage of the driver should match the voltage requirement of your LEDs, and its wattage rating must be equal to or greater than the total wattage of your lights.
Q: Can I connect LEDs requiring different voltages to a single constant voltage driver?
A: No, all LEDs connected to a constant voltage driver must have the same voltage requirement. Mixing LEDs that require different voltages can lead to uneven lighting, potential damage to the LEDs, or both.
Q: What happens if the load on a constant voltage LED driver is too low?
A: If the load is significantly below the driver's minimum output capacity, it may not operate efficiently, potentially leading to issues with LED performance. However, most quality drivers are designed to handle a wide range of loads, from minimum to maximum, without problems.
Q: Can I dim LEDs using a constant voltage LED driver?
A: Yes, but ensure the driver is built for dimming and that you use a suitable dimmer switch that matches the driver's specifications. Dimming functionality allows for adjusting the brightness of LED lights, offering versatility in creating ambient lighting conditions.
Q: Is it possible to use a constant voltage LED driver outdoors?
A: Yes, there are constant voltage LED drivers designed for outdoor use that are waterproof and dustproof. When selecting a driver for outdoor applications, ensure it has an appropriate IP (Ingress Protection) rating to withstand environmental conditions.
